Over the last sixty years, the city has seen the filming of about twenty films and several television series. This Cinema Route aims to show the visitor why so much filming has been set in Dénia.
The designers of the route and authors of the explanatory text contained within the brochure are Toni Reig and Miquel Crespo, scholars of the history of cinema in the city and authors of the research work entitled “Dénia, city of cinema”.
The route is divided into three parts: the port and the sea front, the sailors' neighbourhood of Baix la Mar and the city centre, all of which have been the main locations used for filming.
The route starts from the Tourist Office, located on the site previously occupied by the La Roserar outdoor summer cinema, and heads past Castell d'Olimbroi towards the port.
The walk then continues past the old fish market, the Cervantes esplanade, El Raset, the square known as Plaza de Mariana Pineda, the small Sant Antoni square, the Creu square, the castle, the square called Plaza de la Constitution and the Town Hall, the street known as Calle Cop, La Glorieta, the street called Calle Marqués de Camp which is the main artery of the city where all the cinemas and theatres used to be, and the square known as Plaza del Convento, where the so-called Almacén de los Ingleses was located, used for interior decoration in a number of films.
