El Poble Nou de Benitatxell
The riuraus are constructions that appeared in the Valencian area during the 18th century. They are linked to the boom period of the production of raisins, which occurred mostly during the 19th century, which was also a period of general economic growth. This construction was an essential element during the traditional process of making raisins. The function of these buildings was to serve as a shelter for the “canyissos” (the trays made out of reeds upon which the grapes were spread out so as to dry) whenever the rain or the night dew threatened to wet the grapes and make them rot.
This circular route has an easy level of difficulty. The starting point is at the Tourist Office of Poble Nou de Benitatxell and the walk goes past various riuraus such as Riurau de Maria Pasqual, Riurau Luisa, Vicenta la de Liboria, Pozos del Albiar, amongst others.
