The La Mare de Déu Pobra Chapel is located in the district known as Benibrai or Benibrahim, an ancient Islamic hamlet located a short distance from the town of Xaló. It was built in October 2002, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of her canonical coronation.
Tradition has it that in 1731, a farmer from Xaló called Tio Canet found an image of La Mare de Déu del Consol buried inside a wooden box. Due to its poor state of conservation and pitiful appearance, it was called La Mare de Déu Pobra (The Poor Virgin Mary).
The chapel is a solid, whitewashed hut with a low, slightly sloping roof. On the wall facing the road, there is a ceramic panel with the image of La Mare de Déu and a scene depicting the farmer finding her image. Immediately below, there is a black-marble plaque with a dedication to La Mare de Déu Pobra. Underneath, flower offerings are regularly placed on a bed of stones.
The image of La Mare de Déu Pobra is preserved in the main altar of the parish church of Santa Maria in Xaló.
