Teulada Moraira
The Sant Joan Baptista Chapel in the town of Moraira is located in the area known as El Portet. It was built in 1865, initiated by the priest Father Francisco and restored and enlarged in 1940 by Vicente Buigues, rector of the town of Benissa.
The chapel has a porch at the front with two large windows which are supported by large masonry stones. The building has two different sections with independent entrances to the chapel, both framed by semicircular arches. The main part of the construction, which leads to the nave, is covered with a gable roof. Then there is a lower section, on the left, with an independent single-sided sloped roof and a campanile housing a bell above its façade. These two sections are separated on the inside by three arches of the same style mounted on pillars and pilasters. The front wall is occupied by a polychrome altarpiece with columns. In the niche there is an image of Sant Joan Baptista as a child. Other smaller carvings of Sant Joan de Déu and L’Arcàngel Gabriel on pedestals complete the imagery.
