L'Atzúbia Forna
The Church of Forna, a hamlet of L'Atzúbia, is dedicated to Sant Bernat Abat. This construction dates back approximately to the 16th century, despite the year 1886 being displayed on the door, as this corresponds to a renovation that took place at that time. It has a triangular-shaped facade. Some of the decorative paintings, stones from the original temple and the bell gable are still preserved.
In the mid-19th century, the parish of Sant Bernat Abat was under the jurisdiction of Vilallonga, but in 1915 it was annexed to the parish of Sant Vicent Ferrer de L'Atzúbia. During the war, it was used as a vegetable market and later as a school. Around the year 2000, an earthquake struck which caused the church's ceiling to shake and become unstable, leading to its closure due to the threat of collapse. This event served as a necessary reason for its restoration, during which children's and elderly people’s graves, as well as many funerary artefacts, were discovered. Among the remains, ancient objects belonging to the church's benefactors were also found. It seems that the burial practices were similar to Christian ones and, therefore, it is possible that the old cemetery is located within this church’s area.
