L’Illa del Descobridor is a small island located immediately south of Cap de La Nau, in the municipality of Xàbia. It is an elongated island with an area of about 2.5 hectares, completely rocky and surrounded by cliffs, making it almost inaccessible.
It is home to an important colony of cormorants, and its underwater environment, which contains a wide variety of species, is popular among divers. It falls under the protection of the Cap de Sant Antoni Marine Reserve.
According to popular history, the name comes from a local sailor named Bartolomé, who was part of the crew of one of Christopher Columbus' ships during the discovery of the American continents.
