Mayor Gerónimo Mulet Montaner ruled the town council for three consecutive terms, between 1909 and 1913. He resigned in the middle of his third term in office, but this did not imply that he dissociated himself from local politics. In those years, he started projects of works and services of great interest to the villagers.
The construction company of the Alacant-Dénia railway expropriated, in November of 1911, some land in the area of El Pla and railway works began in Gata, which were of great importance for the communications and industry of the town.
The train, popularly known as El Trenet de La Marina, arrived at Gata for the first time on the 11th of July, 1915. From then on, the railway of La Marina facilitated trade and helped promote business, first with regards to palm weaving and later wicker.
