At the beginning of the 20th century, civil authorities took strategic advantage of the location of the Basseta spring and built a square to the right of the road adjoining it, called Plaça de La Font.
Bearing in mind the remarkable location of the square's terrain, around 1931 the town authorities proposed planting trees, encouraging the local children to take care of them.
The trees planted were London planetrees, a fast-growing deciduous variety that can reach a height of forty metres and have a long lifespan, in some areas even up to a period of three thousand years. From the very beginning, these emblematic trees were, and continue to be, specimens of great historical value, as well as a symbol of Sagra.
Since its original creation, the square has received several refurbishments and remodelings before arriving at its current appearance. Since 1985, during the patron saint festivities in August, the traditional day of paellas has been celebrated there.
