Pedreguer
The riuraus are constructions that appeared in the Valencian area during the 18th century. They are linked to the boom period of the production of raisins, which occurred mostly during the 19th century, which was also a period of general economic growth. This construction was an essential element during the traditional process of making raisins. The function of these buildings was to serve as a shelter for the “canyissos” (the trays made out of reeds upon which the grapes were spread out so as to dry) whenever the rain or the night dew threatened to wet the grapes and make them rot.
This route permits you to contemplate the riuraus of Pedreguer, which are living examples of the Valencian rural architecture of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings are quite sober but at the same time possess great artistic beauty and are key pieces of this landscape and culture. In Pedreguer, the various types of riuraus converge, such as Riurau de la Casa Porticada de Roser (an integrated riurau or house with portico, one of the most beautiful in Pedreguer's countryside, with simple and methodical forms but with the peculiarity that it is found in a side nave and is covered by a chamber), El d'Alfàs, Integrat Caragús and L'Hort de L'Alè, amongst other private riuraus.
