The stones here speak, because they are a part
of our past and a part of our present.
El Ràfol d’Almúnia
Inside the cave known as Cova del Cocoví there are two panels with prehistoric rock art, belonging to the Levantine and schematic types.
The first panel is located to the southeast of the entrance hole, in an excellent area which is more or less flat. The second is to the south of the entrance hole, in a small niche in the shelter located on the outside. The human figure, which is located in the central part of the first panel, in the most prominent area and where the surface is smoother, belongs to the Levantine style, both due to its subject matter and due to its technical execution. This type of figure corresponds to the anthropomorphs with pronounced buttocks defined by Galiana, Torregrosa and Ribera.
As for the schematic bars documented in panel I, in many cases they are arranged so as to follow the trajectory of stalagmite formations and seem to have been made with a diluted pigment, quite outlined, with the technique resembling that of the Levantine archer, although the two representations use different colours. Based on this information, it is possible to deduce that it is a representation which was perhaps executed in two different moments, although with the intention of completing a panel in an orderly and coherent manner.
Are guided visits possible? Yes.
