The washing place known as Llavador Nou de Murla is located next to the fountain. It has undergone several alterations, the last one in 1997, leaving some of the traditional parts unrecognisable.
This was the place where women used to meet, enjoy themselves and relax, apart from doing the laundry; it was also a perfect place to gossip and share anecdotes. A good example of this can be found in expressions such as "fer safareig" which means "to do the laundry" which is synonymous with "xafardejar" meaning "to gossip", or the expression "No ho digues a ningú, perquè la gent de seguida fa safareig" translated as "Don't tell anyone, because people immediately do the laundry", again repeating the synonym between washing and gossip in the Valencian language.
There were a series of unwritten rules in the washing area that everyone respected, thus ensuring the smooth running of the facility. The women distributed themselves on both sides of the basin. On one side they worked using soap and bleach, and on the other side they rinsed the laundry. In this way, by using two different water channels, the water from the bleach and soap did not mix with the clean water. (1)
