The Tower of Mira-rosa is located in the town of Els Poblets, in the region known as La Marina Alta, very close to the town of El Verger, to the west of Dénia.
The tower belongs to the defensive system of the town and it had a double role: on the one hand, to serve as a coastal watchtower against Barbary pirate attacks and, on the other, as a defensive element against them. It is very likely that its origin is an old Arab tower in the hamlet, which, after the occupation of the territory by the Christians, was transformed into a mediaeval tower in the 14th century.
It has a square floor plan with a height equivalent to a ground floor and three upper floors. Before its partial reconstruction, the tower was destroyed from the second floor up. The reconstruction of the upper part is perfectly visible, since the materials used for it differ notably from the original masonry used in its initial construction.
The window on the first floor has a semicircular arch, but the Mudejar-type window on the second floor (in good conditions) stands out. The bricking up of the entrance door that connects to the window on the ground floor can also be seen. This is because the tower is attached to a house and its owners have chosen to give it access from the inside. Nevertheless, there is also a side door that is not used.
The finish of the destroyed upper part does permit the viewer to know if the tower was initially crenellated, because a totally flat terrace was made without any type of additional decoration.(1)
