Xàbia
The port of Xàbia conceals one of the most charming corners of this coast. The cove known as Cala del Tangó is sheltered by the imposing cliffs of Cape Sant Antoni and combines, together with its natural beauty, some evocative stories that explain its name.
The use of “tangó” in the name alludes to the rescue platform for shipwrecked people that was built in 1899 in Morro de la Creueta, in use until 1972. A “tangó” is a kind of perch that warships carry on each side when they are at anchor. By similarity, the same name is given to the coastal platforms and hence this beach has been known since then as Tangó.
The route starts at the port, leaving it by way of the eastern dock. Follow the markers of the PR-CV 355 Port Xàbia - Montgó route.
Ascend along the path and cross a ravine. Stay on the path and, observing the remains of the cultivation terraces around you, follow it until you reach a point where this path splits: take the path on the left, along which you go back as you ascend. Next, you begin to descend in a zigzag manner. Pass under two pine trees, which are practically in the middle of the path. Continue walking and a few metres further on you pass by a carob tree on your right. Begin descending through a narrow passage over a rock and from this point you can already see the Cala Tangó cove.
Return using the same path which you used to arrive.
