The mountain massif called La Serra del Carrascar de Parcent is located to the west of Parcent, in La Marina Alta, and to the northeast of Tàrbena, in La Marina Baixa; it separates the valleys known as La Vall de Pop and La Vall de L'Algar. It has a peak located at 994 metres above sea level and an arched and typically Prebetic structure, which is part of the eastern ends of this system. A series of gentle crests and a plateau, located at the northernmost point of the range, stand out. Although it used to be covered with kermes oak (“carrasca”), nowadays the dominant tree species, located mainly on the shady side, is the Aleppo pine, together with various bushy species typical of the Mediterranean scrub: mastic, kermes oak, wild olive, Mediterranean buckthorn, Mediterranean dwarf palm, rosemary, heather, labdanum, gorse, thyme, etc.
The path of El Carrascar is very rich in semi-shaded shrubland and, due to its orientation and height, there is a mixture of cade, ivy, ash trees, laurestine, brush, black salsify and “rabet de gat” (Sideritis tragoriganum). On the crags in the higher parts, there are “geraniets de roca” (Eradium rupicola) and terebinth. There are also hives in the darkest crevices. The population of Epipactis kleinii near the Foia source, a very rare orchid in the lowlands, should be highlighted.
Through the paths of El Carrascar, one can go up the ravine called Barranc de Les Cabres, passing by the cave known as Cova dels Coloms and the well of La Mina de Ferro.
