The eleven windmills of La Plana were built in the 18th century, except for one which dates back to the 14th century. They are cylindrical in shape, about seven metres high and with a diameter of more than six metres. The windmills are located near the cape known as El Cap de Sant Antoni.

Inside there are two floors. The ground floor would have been used as a warehouse whilst the upper floor, supported by a quarter-sphere ashlar vault, would have housed robust oak mechanisms that would have moved the heavy millstones and supported the blades attached to their horizontal axis. All this disappeared at the end of the 19th century.

Taking advantage of the wind energy that moved the blades, their function was to grind wheat. However, they are now out of use and no longer have any blades. Of the eleven, three are owned by the local government, which is planning their restoration.

Another example of this type of construction is the Safranera mill, which dates back to 1850.
