Gata de Gorgos
During this first stage of the GR 330 route, which runs from Dénia to Gata de Gorgos, you can enjoy the natural landscape that surrounds the mountain of Montgó, discover archaeological sites such as Cova de l'Aigua or Barranc dels Lladres, admire the wonderful views from the top of Montgó, and pass next to the small village of Jesús Pobre, which you can also choose to visit.
This trail starts by climbing to the top of Montgó, and heading to the hermitage of Pare Pere where you find the entrance to the Montgó Natural Park. Continue along the path of the old agricultural colony, which was created in 1921. During this section you have the chance to visit the cave known as Cova de l'Aigua, which is an area that the Romans used as a place of worship, and also where Arab remains of the Taifa of Dénia have been discovered as well as evidence of its use as a reservoir. Continue walking until the trail becomes a path that runs between pines, dwarf palms and endemic flora, taking you to the Barranc dels Lladres ravine. Continue the ascent along a zigzag path until you reach the top of Montgó, 753 metres above sea level, from where you can see the rock known as Penyal d'Ifac, the Serra de Segària mountain range, Cullera, the great Gulf of Oliva and the Serra de Bèrnia mountain range. After enjoying the wonderful views available, begin the descent along the path that passes under the Dénia cross, until you reach the small village called Jesús Pobre. From this point, the last part of this stage of the route begins, heading towards Gata de Gorgos.
